QVP delivers a high fidelity WYSIWYG view of over 70 supported file types, supporting document formatting and page layout features with the goal of providing a view identical to the display of the document in its native application. This document will help you install and get started using Quick View Plus for Windows CE. You will find installation instructions and a description of the menu items and features included with Quick View Plus. We hope you enjoy using this powerful utility for accessing your business documents received through email or downloaded from the web, Intranet or your PC. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to Install Quick View Plus -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation Notes: 1. It will take several minutes to install Quick View Plus. During this installation, your system may appear to stop. Despite these possible delays, the installation is in fact proceeding. Please allow the process to complete and do not reset your machine or perform other operations while the installation is running. 2. To ensure adequate file storage space, we reccomend that you install Quick View Plus onto the Compact Flash Card memory, rather than onto the device's Main memory. How to Install: 1. Prepare for installation. Install the PC Connect application on your PC, and then connect your CASSIOPEIA to your PC. See "Using Your CASSIOPEIA with Your Computer" in your CASSIOPEIA User's Guide for details. 2. Double-click "\qvplus\setup\setup.exe". 3. Follow the instructions that appear on your computer screen. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to uninstall -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. On your CASSIOPEIA, push the Launch button. 2. Tap [Quick View Plus] once so it is highlighted. 3. Tap [Edit] and then [Delete Application]. 4. In response to the confirmation dialog box that appears, tap [Yes]. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHAPTER 1: GETTING STARTED Quick View Plus 6.1 for Windows CE gives you easy access to files created in over 100 programs, regardless of whether you have those programs on your device. With Quick View Plus you can work effortlessly with files or parts of files created by word processors, spreadsheet applications, graphics editors, and metafiles, including presentations. You can: * View files * Copy and paste with full formatting * Zoom graphics You can do all this with files already on your computer or with files downloaded, received, or copied from these sources: * Internet * E-mail * Networks * Bulletin boards CHAPTER 2: QUICK TOUR 2.1: A QUICK TOUR FOR STARTING QUICK VIEW PLUS This section takes you on a quick tour of Quick View Plus and shows you how easy it is to display and work with files of various types in the view window. After installing Quick View Plus, you can open a view window from several places in your device. Quick View Plus distinguishes between four different file types: * Word Processing * Spreadsheet * Bitmaps * Metafiles There are different display options for each of the four file types. You can start Quick View Plus from: * your E-Mail application * the Launch button 2.1.1: To start Quick View Plus from E-Mail: Quick View Plus can launch registered file types from your email application, allowing you to easily view attached files. When an e-mail attachment is received, you may view the contents of the attachment in Quick View Plus by simply clicking on the attachment. 2.1.2: To start Quick View Plus from the Launch button: 1. Push the Launch button and tap Quick View Plus in the list of applications that appears. 2. To open a file, tap the Tree View button on the menu bar, which will display the File Tree navigation of your file system within the viewing window. From here you may locate and select a file for viewing. 2.2: THE QUICK VIEW PLUS VIEWING WINDOW The view window combines the standard functionality of a Menu bar and a Tool bar into one control called the Command bar, which contains three menu items, plus the Command bar buttons: * View menu * Display menu * Toolbar buttons 2.2.1: The View Menu The View menu contains seven commands: * COPY allows you to copy selected items in a file to the clipboard for pasting into other applications * SELECT ALL allows you to select the entire contents of the file you are viewing * VIEW AS TEXT allows you to choose between viewing the file in its native format or in text format * TEXT/HTML Encoding allows you to set the encoding for HTML and text files. Encodings tell Quick View Plus how to interpret the text that is being viewed. The menu presents a list of available encodings (with the currently selected encoding checked) for international character sets. Note: The Encoding menu will be grayed-out if the file being viewed is not HTML or text. The available encodings are: * ASCII (7 bit) * Chinese (Big 5) * Chinese (GB) * Cyrillic (ANSI 1251) * Cyrillic (KOI8-R) * Dos (Latin 1) * Japanese (EUC) * Japanese (Shift Jis) * Korean (Hangeul) * Central European (Latin 2) * Macintosh * Unicode * Windows (1252) Note: When viewing an HTML file, DOS is the only English option. Windows, ASCII, Macintosh, or Unicode will not be available. * OPTIONS... allows the selection of a default display font, various clipboard options, and a choice of how to view unknown files (those unrecognized by the application). * Show File Tree toggles off and on a portion of the view window for the tree view of the file system, which presents files in a tree structure for easy navigation; the file tree is refreshed if a folder is collapsed then expanded. * Refresh File Tree will refresh the directory tree file list. 2.2.2: The Display Menu The Display menu provides specific options depending on the type of file being viewed. See Working with Specific File Types within the Viewing Supported File Types chapter. 2.2.3: Toolbar buttons Depending on the view you're looking at, some combination of the following toolbar buttons are activated to allow you to adjust the view for the best possible representation of the file. The following buttons that available within Quick View Plus, and when each button will be available while you are viewing a file of a specific type (WP = Word Processing, SS = Spreadsheet, BMP = Bitmap, MET = Metafile): File Folder Icon: Toggles off and on a portion of the view window for the tree view of the file system, which presents files in a tree structure for easy navigation; the file tree is refreshed if a folder is collapsed then expanded (WP, SS, BMP, and MET) Zoom In Icon: Incrementally enlarges the file scaling to a maximum of 477% of the original size. This button is not available when viewing spreadsheet/ database files (WP, BMP, and MET) Zoom Out Icon: Incrementally reduces the file scaling to a minimum of 26% of the original size. This button is not available when viewing spreadsheet/ database files (WP, BMP, and MET) CHAPTER 3: USING QUICK VIEW PLUS Once you've started Quick View Plus, all of its features are enabled. This section describes how to copy all or part of a viewed file to the Clipboard. For details on features for specific types of files, see the chapter titled Working with Specific File Types. 3.1: COPYING TO THE CLIPBOARD You can copy all or part of a file to the Clipboard and then paste it into another program. This is useful, for example, if you are exchanging spreadsheet files with someone who does not use your spreadsheet application. For details on copying to the Clipboard from specific types of files, see Working with Specific File Types. To customize how Quick View Plus copies specific types of files to the Clipboard, see Clipboard Options Dialog. To copy an entire file to the Clipboard: 1. On the View menu, tap Select All. 2. On the View menu, tap Copy. To copy part of a file to the Clipboard: 1. In the view window, select the part of the file you want to copy. 2. On the View menu, tap Copy. CHAPTER 4: WORKING WITH SPECIFIC FILE TYPES This section describes the features of Quick View Plus that are specific to the four primary file type groups: * Word-processing - The Document view displays word processing, text, and unknown file types; Quick View Plus will display the text, paragraph, and page attributes for these file types. corresponds to spreadsheet files. Quick View Plus will display spreadsheet cells in a table format. * Bitmaps - The Bitmap view corresponds to raster graphic files. * Metafiles - The Drawing view corresponds to vector graphics files, including presentations. Quick View Plus adds a menu item to the menu bar that corresponds to the type of file being viewed: Document for word processing files; Sheet for spreadsheet files; Bitmap for bitmap files; Drawing for metafile and presentation files. Open a file in Quick View Plus (as described in Starting Quick View Plus) and follow the instructions in the following part corresponding to the file type of the file you have open. You can also use the options described in Customizing Quick View Plus with the Options Dialog Box to change the defaults for: * Unsupported File Types * Display * Copying to the Clipboard 4.1: WORD PROCESSING FILES Under the Document menu item on the menu bar, you can use the View command to view word processing files in three modes - Draft, Normal, or Page. In Page mode, you can view word- processing files in three sizes - Full, Fit to Window, and Fit to Window width. You can also zoom in or out on the viewed image of a word processing file. 4.1.1: To select a viewing mode for word processing files On the View menu item do one of the following: To display text with: * A single font (selected from the Display tab of the Options dialog box, reached from the Options command in the View menu), with character formatting (bold, italic, etc.), paragraph alignment, spacing, and tabs, but no embedded objects, tap Draft * All fonts, character formatting, paragraph alignment, spacing, tabs, and embedded objects, tap Normal * Line wrapping, columns, and page margins; all fonts, character formatting, paragraph alignment, spacing, tabs, and embedded objects; headers, footers, and annotations, tap Page 4.1.2: To select an onscreen page size for word processing files in Preview mode: On the Size menu item do one of the following: To set the page's on-screen size to... the full size of the printed page, tap Full. fit the page entirely within the view window, tap Fit to Window fit page width within the width of the view window, tap Fit to Window Width 4.1.3: To adjust the zoom percentage for word processing files: On the Zoom task bar, tap one of the following: * To zoom in to 125% of a current bitmap, up to a limit of 477% of the original size, tap In * To zoom out to 80% of a current bitmap, down to a limit of 26% of the original size, tap Out 4.2: SPREADSHEET FILES After displaying a spreadsheet file in the view window, you can choose the Sheet menu item to view spreadsheets in Draft mode or show or hide the gridlines in spreadsheet files. 4.2.1: To view spreadsheets in Draft mode On the Sheet menu, tap Draft View. 4.2.2: To show or hide gridlines in spreadsheet files On the Sheet menu, tap Gridlines to toggle between enabling and disabling the display of gridlines. 4.3: BITMAP FILES After displaying a bitmap file in the view window, you can use the Bitmap menu to adjust the display by changing the display size or zooming in or out. 4.3.1: To adjust the display of bitmap files On the Bitmap menu do one of the following: * To display the bitmap in its original size, tap Bitmap, then tap Original Size. * To size the bitmap so that it uses the entire view window without distorting the aspect ratio, tap Bitmap, then tap Fit to Window. * To size the bitmap so that it uses the entire height of the view window, tap Bitmap, then tap Fit to Window Height. * To size the bitmap so that it uses the entire width of the view window, tap Bitmap, then tap Fit to Window Width. * To size the drawing so that it uses the entire view window without maintaining the aspect ratio, tap Bitmap, then tap Stretch to Window. * To zoom in to 125% of a current bitmap, up to a limit of 477% of the original size, on the Zoom taskbar tap In. * To zoom out to 80% of a current bitmap, down to a limit of 26% of the original size, on the Zoom taskbar tap Out. 4.3.2: To copy all or part of a bitmap to the Clipboard 1. Do one of the following: * On the View menu, tap Select All. * In the view window, position the stylus in the upper left corner of the section you want to copy. Drag diagonally down and to the right until the resulting rectangle outlines the selection you want. 2. On the View menu, tap Copy. 4.4: METAFILE AND PRESENTATION FILES After displaying a metafile or presentation in the view window, you can use the Drawing menu to adjust the display by changing the display size or by zooming in or out. 4.4.1: To adjust the display of drawing files On the Drawing menu do one of the following: * To display the drawing in its original size, tap Size, then tap Original Size. * To size the drawing so that it uses the entire view window without distorting the aspect ratio, clcik Size, then tap Fit to Window * To size the drawing so that it uses the entire height of the view window, tap Size, then tap Fit to Window Height. * To size the drawing so that it uses the entire width of the view window, tap Size, then tap Fit to Window Width. * To zoom in on the entire drawing, on the Zoom taskbar tap In. * To zoom out on the entire drawing, on the Zoom taskbar tap Out. This dialog allows you to specify some options that affect the way Quick View Plus processes and views the data within a file. There are two pages within this dialog which allow options to be set for different areas: 1. Display options - specify the default font for text, and how to view files whose format is unknown to Quick View Plus. 2. Clipboard options - specify file formats and fonts (for all file types) and table or tab format (for spreadsheets) for placement on the clipboard Note: Changing the settings in an open Quick View Plus session does not affect subsequently opened sessions until you close the window in which you made the changes. After you close that window, the changes become the default settings for all new Quick View Plus sessions. 6.1: DISPLAY OPTIONS DIALOG You can specify the default font for text and how files are displayed whose format is unknown to Quick View Plus. The Default Font option is used when Quick View Plus cannot find the requested font. Either View as text or Do not view can be selected within the View unknown files as option for handing files of an unknown file type. Quick View Plus uses a 10-point Tahoma, ANSI 8-bit (the Windows character set, with extended characters) to display: * Files for which no font information is available * Word processing files in draft mode * ASCII and ANSI text files. To customize the display: 1.On the View menu, tap Options. 2.In the Options dialog box, tap the Display tab. 3.Do one or more of the following: * If you want to change the Default Font for text, select a different font and font size from the font and font size drop-down lists. * If you want to change the display option for files that the application does not recognize (Unknown File Type), tap the appropriate button, Text or Do not view. 4. Tap OK. 6.2: CLIPBOARD OPTIONS DIALOG Quick View Plus uses the following defaults when copying information to the Clipboard: * File formats = Text, Bitmap (BMP), and Rich Text Format (RTF) * Font (for copying text from spreadsheets and databases, and text for which no format information is available) = 10-point Tahoma * Spreadsheet data = copies as a table To customize the Clipboard format and fonts: 1. On the View menu, tap Options. 2. In the Quick View Plus Options dialog, tap the Clipboard tab. 3. To specify the formats placed on the Clipboard, tap the appropriate check boxes to select or clear each format. Note: The different view displays can place different data types on the clipboard: Word Processor (Text, RTF), Spreadsheet (Text, RTF), Bitmap (Bitmap). CHAPTER 7. Default Font Does not change display of Text File. If you change the default font (see Chapter 6.1 above) while viewing a text file, the displayed font may not change. To change the displayed font, use the View menu Text Encoding option (see Chapter 2.2.1 above) and change from Windows to DOS text encoding. 2. Viewing a document with large embedded graphics can cause Quick View Plus to shut down suddenly.
